So here I am at the start of a new journey, learning a little bit more every day, adding to my knowledge all the time, which I had and allowed to drift away and planning my future successes.
What is the biggest mistake I learned last time and am able to confront more easily this time?
Why not allowing time to get away from me, that is what!
So what do I mean by that?
In every walk of life both business and personal, everything takes up time. The problem in a business setting is that time flies and can really feel even more finite and less available. You are always seeking a way to reach success as quickly as possible and try to cram as much information and get as much done as you possibly can before the day is over and you must get some sleep before your eyes pop out of your head so you can start all over again as soon as possible.
Each day more and more is required it seems and each day it feels harder to get everything squeezed into the day.
Can you feel an Aaaaaaargh! Coming on?
So what I did and want you to do is just say STOP! That can be something you can internalise or shout out loud, either way is fine by me.
What you need to do is step back a bit and think what you really need to do to progress each day and not to push it too far. I know all about impatience and wanting to succeed before you even start. I have been there, done that and got the t-shirt!
Trying to do everything at once is a waste of time, and if you waste time, time will waste you my friend.
What you need is to calm down and make a plan. Make an easy plan that you can stick to and achieve, not one that stretches you too much, so you end up dropping it like a hot rock.
Now a lot of marketers out there bang on about plans, days, weeks, months, years and so on. I know that is daunting to many at the start. So I advocate a simple solution, plan for just a couple of days at a time only at first.
In your plan work out what you really need to do and learn and what you would like to do and learn. Give yourself a set amount of time to complete the task(s) you need to do, then if there is time approach the task(s) you would like to do.
Make sure there are break times; make sure there is enough time to relax.
If you fail to do what you needed to do in the time given, then this is a good thing, you have learnt things can take longer than expected, include this knowledge in your next days planning.
I know you want success right now, but in truth the only way to ensure lasting success is to plan, even on a small scale and to make sure those plans contain achievable goals.
We all need more time, we all want to get as much done as soon as we can, but the sooner we learn to plan, the sooner we learn to not go over the top and tackle problems a bit at a time, the sooner time becomes a friend. Time may still fly, but at least you should be able to keep up.
Plan for success, work smart and the future will open up to you as it has for me!
